SUMMARY:Visit: Westmeadows Indigenous Community Garden
DESCRIPTION:Aunty Jo Russell introduced us to bush tucker on her last visit to Nillumbik — and now she’s inviting us to her garden so she can show us around and talk about the plants. \nA proud Wiradyuri woman\, respected Elder and Hume Enviro Champion\, Aunty Jo is tireless in fostering community connection and cultural learning through the Westmeadows indigenous and Community Gardens. Over the past six years\, she has transformed the space into a hub for reconciliation and sustainability through the creation of a bush tucker garden\, a yarning circle and strong ties between residents\, schools and local groups. She regularly leads bush food and fibre walks\, encouraging others to learn about country with compassion and curiosity. \nWe’ll have lunch together. Please bring a plate to share. \nSunday 12 April\, 11am–2pm Toora Drive\, Westmeadows. \nRSVP below to join us. We can organise a carpool from Eltham or Hurstbridge.

SUMMARY:National Walk for Truth
DESCRIPTION:Travis Lovett — former Commissioner of Victoria’s Yoorrook Justice Commission and now leading the University of Melbourne’s Centre for Truth Telling and Dialogue — is walking 800 kilometres from Victorian Parliament to Canberra\, calling on the Federal Government to commit to a national truth-telling process. He arrives in time for Reconciliation Week. \nWe’re hoping to join one or both of the walks on the first day\, Sunday 19 April\, and would love your company. \nThere are two ways to be involved: \n\nRegister on the official Walk for Truth website to secure your walk place\nUse the RSVP here below to let us know you’re coming so we can coordinate as an NRG group — we’ll sort public transport together\n\nMorning walk — Parliament to Dights Falls Park\n\nThe morning walk covers approximately 5km through parkland and Fitzroy\, finishing at Dights Falls Park. The terrain is mostly flat with gentle inclines — easy to moderate difficulty\, around 2–3 hours with stops at significant sites. The day begins with a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country on the steps of Parliament at 9:00am\, with the walk starting at 9:30am. Public transport recommended — parking is limited in the CBD. \n\n\nAfternoon walk — Dights Falls Park to Victoria Park\nThe afternoon leg is a shorter\, easier walk — approximately 0.7km along suburban footpaths\, taking around 30 minutes at a steady pace. It begins at Dights Falls Park at 1:30pm\, with a community gathering beforehand from 1:00pm. The walk finishes at Victoria Park in Collingwood at around 2:30pm\, where a second community event will follow for the rest of the afternoon. Toilets and parking are available at both ends. \nView all other walk days on the official website: www.walkfortruth.com
